If you are a Rolex enthusiast, you may have heard about the Rolex white tag or the white hang tag. In this article, we will provide you with all the information you need to know about the white tag. We will cover what it is, what it contains, whether you get it when you buy a new Rolex watch, and how it can help identify if the dial is original.
What is Rolex White Tag?
The Rolex white tag is a white plastic hang tag that is delivered with the watch when Rolex sends it from the factory. It is a relatively new addition to the Rolex packaging, introduced in 2015 with the new warranty card. Prior to this, Rolex used a green plastic hang tag that had a sticker on it that included some basic information.
What is Rolex White Hang Tag?
The white hang tag contains more information than the old green hang tag. The information is engraved, meaning that the hang tags cannot be made generic simply by removing the sticker, like on the older, green tag. The white hang tag includes the following information on the backside:
- Barcode (used internally by Rolex before shipping it to the retailer)
- Complete reference number, including the end reference code which denotes the exact dial configuration
- The serial number of the watch
- The correct box for the model (small, medium, large, or XL)
On the front side, the white hang tag has the Rolex logo and whitespace which is meant to be the place where the retailer puts the price tag. In contrast, the old green hang tags included the barcode, serial number, reference number (not denoting the dial configuration), and the reference number of the bracelet.
Do You Get the White Hangtag When Buying a New Rolex Watch?
The white hang tag is not considered part of a “full set,” although it can be a nice bonus. Most Rolex retailers tend to keep the white hang tags and do not include them when selling a new Rolex watch. However, it doesn’t hurt to ask if you can take it with you when you buy a new Rolex watch.
The Hang Tags Can Help Identify If the Dial Is the Original
Thanks to the fact that the hang tag indicates the full reference number, the hang tag can tell us whether the dial that is in the watch is the one it was originally delivered with. For example, if it is a Daytona 116508 with a special green dial, some people prefer to have the hang tag included as this can work as “proof” that the watch was originally delivered with the green dial.
In conclusion, the Rolex white tag or white hang tag is a relatively new addition to the Rolex packaging. It contains more information than the old green hang tag and can help identify if the dial is original. Although it is not considered part of a “full set,” it can be a nice bonus to have.
Using a loupe, I still couldn’t see the tiny print of the word ‘rolex’ making up the green line on my new white tag (on both sides). It was more distinct and obvious on the old white tag. On the new tag which I have, it’s looks like it either isn’t there (just a full green line, for both sides) or the word is be being overlapped on, I can’t spot or make out the words. is it normal?
Yes
